»For everything in this world, there’s someone who needs to do it. One works in a factory, the other opens a brothel and the next one becomes a priestling. I’m a farmer and you … well, you are an illustrator.«
For a period of three months I was travelling through Austria with my pen and sketchbook. No matter if in the blizzard of Tyrol’s mountains, in Vienna’s coffeehouses, at the local bar’s regulars’ tables or at the sausage stand, everywhere I was I met interesting people. I met philosophizing farmers, gallant flea market vendors, elegant Vienna ladies, a woman from the hardrock society, a Styrian rapper and a man from the Burgenland who could whisper with metal.
I developed a »Graphic Theatre«, a drawn trip through the Alpine republic that recounts the stories of its inhabitants in little theatre scenes. All drawings were done in situ on the different stops of my journey.
