»Research needs the right atmosphere! Dilettantish engagement with unfamiliar fields of knowledge promotes innovation!« These words were spoken by psychiatrist W. Wolfgang Fleischhacker, who served as rector of the Medical University of Innsbruck in recent years. In addition to passing on his professional expertise, it was particularly important to him to enable the new generation of researchers to enjoy their work.
This biographical comic was created on the occasion of his retirement and is based on interviews with Fleischhacker’s companions. The main focus of this collection of anecdotes is on portraying the legendary character of Fleischhacker and his unconventional visions, which made outstanding medical achievements possible.

Maternity clinics are closing all over the country and there is a shortage of midwives everywhere. And yet 1899 children have to be delivered safely every day in Germany. This feature accompanies three midwives from Munich’s Klinikum rechts der Isar on their nerve-wracking shifts. Despite the routine, it is never an everyday occurrence for them to be there when new life begins.

For the magazine »Historische Urteilskraft« (Historical Judgment) published by the Deutsches Historisches Museum (DHM), I drew a comic about my grandfather and his time in a prisoner-of-war camp in 1945. My grandfather was a Wehrmacht soldier in World War II, and his stories from that time have always moved and accompanied me. But the real person behind them always remains a mystery to me.

Illustrations for a feature about Fentanyl. This so-called zombie drug is 50 times as strong as heroin, preparing it is fairly simple. The ingredients can be purchased through adverts on social media and are often shipped secretly from China (e.g. hidden in dog food packages). The finished drug is then distributed by the cartels. Today, 300 people die from it every day in the US alone. Slowly but surely, Fentanyl has also arrived in Germany.
Chancellor Willy Brandt Foundation
For the 50th anniversary of his appointment as Federal Chancellor, a traveling exhibition about Willy Brandt was conceived. I illustrated his famous inaugural speech, “We want to dare more democracy!”
»Qu’elle est gay, ma retraite!« The gay retirement home
»Lebensort Vielfalt« in Berlin-Charlottenburg is one of the first retirement homes in Germany, especially for gays, lesbians and transsexuals. 29 men and five women live together under one roof in conditions like in a flat-sharing community. I spent a day with them and documented their everyday life.

To escape her loneliness, 70-year-old pensioner Karin Kaiser moves into a shared community again. At Uferwerk near Berlin adults, children, students, workers, singles and families live together in a commune. A portrait about a remarkable project.

»Confront Chaos« La Ducasse de Mons
Since 1349 the popular »Ducasse« happens every year in the little town of Mons in Belgium. For an entire week the people of the region come together to celebrate, drink and participate in traditional processions and rituals. Highlight of the feast is the combat of Saint George and the evil dragon in which the strong men of the city are battling for the lucky hair of the dragon’s tail.
