Between September 2012 and February 2013 I spent five months in Haiti.
I lived in the dusty metropolis of Port-au-Prince and roamed the deepest countryside. I was there where the poor live and where the rich reside, I had street parties with my friends from the slums and I saw the white sandy beaches of the Caribbean. I danced at voodoo ceremonies and at the carnival and became engrossed in cockfights. And wherever I was, I drew.
Haiti is a country full of contrasts – full of miracles, mysteries and cultural richness, full of abject poverty, criminality and seemingly unsolvable problems. A country between hope and depression, between living and surviving.
